Lactation Support After Your Home Birth

Please Read!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I am excited to work with you after the arrival of your little one! I currently partner with Morningstar Midwifery and Women’s Health as well as Black Hills Midwifery to provide one week of lactation support after the birth of your baby. If your midwife sent you to this link, you’re in the right place! If you found this page a different way, you probably aren’t in the right place (click here instead).

Working with a lactation consultant after birth is considered the standard of care for all mothers, regardless of their breastfeeding experience. Even mothers who have breastfed before can benefit from proactive support, as each child is unique and unforeseen challenges may arise based on the infant's health and anatomy. By receiving assistance from a lactation consultant, mothers can address any issues early on, establish a successful breastfeeding relationship, and ensure optimal health and well-being for both themselves and their babies. For this reason, lactation support after your birth is included in your care and is not optional.

After the birth of your baby, your midwife will inform me of your delivery. You are also welcome to contact me directly. From there, I will contact you to schedule your first appointment. Typically, I will see you and your baby twice in the first week. Visits almost always occur in your home, except in rare circumstances where you live outside my service radius. Your midwife will inform you prior to delivery if you live outside of my service radius. To avoid delay in support, I ask that all intake paperwork be completed prior to delivery.

To get signed up for preventative care, there are two simple steps. First, please use the booking widget to select your due date and "schedule an appointment." This is not an actual appointment, but rather puts you on my radar. It will also initiate an automated email which will include intake paperwork including a consent for care form. The second step is only required for those with traditional health insurance. Once you have booked an appointment for your due date and filled out the paperwork you received via email (if it didn’t come through, check your spam folder), please follow the provided link to enter your insurance information. This ensures a smooth and seamless process for coverage verification. The link is through my biller, not my website. If you use a Healthshare, if Medicaid is your primary insurance, or if you have Tricare, you do not need to fill out the form.

If your insurance is covered, I will bill your insurance company for our visits. The Lactation Network (my biller), guarantees no out of pocket cost to you. I have been working with them for over two years and no client has received a bill. If your insurance plan is covered, you are completely covered prenatally through weaning. Therefore, any appointments beyond the first week will also be covered by your insurance. If your insurance is not covered, your midwife will cover the cost of two consultations. If any appointments become necessary beyond the first week, you will be responsible for the cost of those visits.

The Lactation Network is the only lactation biller in the country that guarantees no out-of-pocket cost to mothers. By working with them, I am able to significantly expand care to more families. However, I do not align myself with their political views.
